Would you like to learn a new language or enhance your language skills?
Whether online or on campus, for your (study-related) stay abroad, your studies, for recreational or professional purposes – we have a suitable offer for everyone:
You can find the Language Center’s offers for the summer semester 2024 in ILIAS at the following link: https://t1p.de/oyumm
Please note: Unfortunately, the last semesters showed us that there are participants who register for, but never attend the actual language courses and thus block places. We will thus have to exclude participants who are absent without advance notification and give their places to candidates from the waiting list.
Registration, dates and rooms for the language courses in the summer semester 2024 in ILIAS.
For the languages English and Spanish, we would like to gradually build up a comprehensive range of courses on levels B1–C1 for English and A1–B2 for Spanish in the next semesters. Therefore, we will offer the following courses in the upcoming summer semester:
English B1.1
English B1.2 (4 weekly hours) in blended format: 2 weekly hours classroom teaching, 2 weekly hours online: This is a follow-up course for last semester’s B1.1 course and is intended for all those who, now that they study at university, feel that their English is not sufficient to read English texts, to hold presentations in English or to speak English in general. This may be the case if your English lessons at school were not sufficient, or if they were too long ago, or you simply did not find any access to the language. The course starts at an advanced level and gives you the opportunity to catch up quickly.
English for Professional Purposes
English for Professional Purposes 2 weekly hours classroom teaching: This course is for all those who still remember their English school lessons quite well, do not have any major problems in understanding English texts, but secretly hope that no one will ever ask them to make appointments over the phone in English, to write English e-mails or to hold presentations in English at work. The course provides an opportunity to prepare for the above situations and to acquire the necessary skills.
Online conversation course in cooperation with the University of Michigan: A course for all those who would like to improve their oral English skills and make new contacts with students in a German programme at the University of Michigan. The overall topic of this course will be multiculturalism.
Spanish A1
Spanish A1 (4 weekly hours) in blended format: 2 weekly hours classroom teaching, 2 weekly hours online: A course for beginners without prior knowledge
Spanish A1.2
Spanish A1.2 (2 weekly hours) online: This course is for those who have already taken an A1.1 course with us in the last semesters or who have already acquired prior knowledge in other ways.
Japanese
The Japanese courses amount to 2 or 3 weekly hours, respectively, and take place in a blended format.
Japanese A1.1: A course for beginners without prior knowledge. PLEASE NOTE: This course has 3 weekly hours and will also include classes on two Saturdays!
Japanese A1.2: A course for all those who have already taken Japanese A1.1 with us last semester or have acquired some prior knowledge in other ways.
Japanese A1.3: A course for all those who have already taken Japanese A1.2 with us last semester or have acquired some prior knowledge in other ways.
New courses offered this semester
Turkish
Turkish for Professional Purposes: A course for all those who have already acquired basic Turkish skills (A1–A2) and have no major problems understanding Turkish texts, but so far have not used the language in their job or studies at all or only very rarely.
German as a Foreign Language
German for International Students: A course for international students who are already studying at HSBI and have noticed during lectures and exercises that they need some support with their German.
English
Online conversation course in cooperation with the University of Michigan: A course for all those who would like to improve their oral English skills and make new contacts with students in a German programme at the University of Michigan. The overall topic of this course will be multiculturalism.
