ETEX - E-learning concept for the textile industry

Within the project eTex, an e-learning concept for the textile industry is being developed. This means that students get a CD or DVD instead of a pure textbook. This virtual learning environment includes not only texts but also photographs, movies, animations, interactive exercises etc. 12 partners from 6 European states participate in the project which is supported by the European Union - alongside the Department of Textile and Clothing Technology of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. The intention of the project is the development of an electronic learning environment which acquaints apprentices in textile professions with warp and weft knitting. Since companies nowadays are strongly specialized, usually not all process steps of the textile chain can be found within one company. The eTex learning platform therefore must be able to vividly depict all procedures even for apprentices who do not encounter the field of weft and warp knitting. On the other hand, all important processes are to be clarified, and theory and practice have to be better linked. This complex task can be performed best with electronic media which allow for the integration of movies, animations and different tests in order to control the learning success. The numerous potentialities nevertheless exhibit special challenges for the project participants who do not only have to impart knowledge but also deal with the best presentation forms.
