China-NRW University Alliance

The China-NRW University Alliance is an academic partnership between universities in China and North Rhine-Westphalia. The cooperation was concluded in 2006 and aims to strategically network joint German-Chinese activities.

Members of the China-NRW University Alliance include renowned universities in China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as several universities in NRW:

  • HSBI
  • University of Cologne
  • TU Dortmund University
  • University of Münster
  • University of Siegen
  • University of Wuppertal

Activities are coordinated by the University of Cologne. In 2007, a service office in the German Center Beijing was established.

Its services include public relations at university fairs, support in the recruitment of prospective (doctoral) students, support in the development of new activities, the maintenance of contacts with Chinese and German companies and the arrangement of work placements. In addition, students and doctoral candidates of the participating German universities are offered a free language and regional studies summer programme in Beijing.

In Germany, the alliance’s services include joint applications, coordination of public relations, the establishment of an alumni database and the organisation of regular lecture series with a China-related background.

The China-NRW University Alliance is an important step towards international cooperation and intercultural exchange in the field of higher education.
