German Courses

As part of the programme “NRWege ins Studium,” which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, HSBI offers preparatory German courses at levels B1, B2 and C1.

The courses are conceived for displaced prospective students in particular.  There will be a limited amount of places for international prospective students who have not experienced displacement.

Information on the preparatory German courses

Application period

  • For the winter semester: 15 June to 15 July
  • For the summer semester: 15 December to 15 January | Start of courses: 1 March

Requirements

  • University entrance qualification for studies in Germany
  • German skills at least at B1 level
  • No EU citizenship
  • Entry into Germany no more than 5 years ago
    For times during which childcare/care was provided for close relatives or for longer periods of severe illness, up to two additional years can be claimed.

  • Complete CV in table format
  • Proof of educational background
    • School-leaving certificate (German or English)
    • Proof of university entrance examination (if applicable)
    • Proof of previous studies (transcript of records, university degree certificate; if applicable)
  • Certificates of German skills
  • Residence status
  • Passport copy
  • Letter of motivation to study at HSBI
  • Copy of a proof of name change (if applicable)

 

Cost

The cost of the classes and examinations are financed through the “NRWege ins Studium” programme.

Participants have to register at HSBI and pay the regular semester contribution.

Information on the German courses 

Course contents and objectives
Objectives
  • Preparing you for the telc C1 language exam for university studies
  • Starting your studies after you have passed the telc C1 exam
  • Preparing you for studies in Germany in general and for intercultural differences
Course details
  • The courses start in mid-March and mid-September each year and last approximately 5 months.
  • Classes take place in a blended format (online and on campus) 25 teaching units per week.
  • Classes take place daily from Monday to Friday, usually in the mornings. Assignments have to be completed in addition in self-study.
  • Textbooks can be borrowed from the library free of charge.
  • For the online classes, you need a laptop or computer, a camera and a microphone – you cannot participate via smartphone.
  • On-campus classes take place in Bielefeld.
  • The C1 course ends with the telc C1 university exam.
  • The B2 and C1 courses can each be repeated once.
Rules for participating in the German courses
  • Participants have to be present in at least 80% of the classes, participate actively and complete their assignments regularly in order to receive a certificate of participation and be admitted to the language exam.
  • For online courses, the camera must be switched on.
