Foreign Language/Intercultural Courses

Please find an up-to-date overview of our language courses at this link.

Students and doctoral students of HSBI may participate in language courses offered by the Language Centre at Bielefeld University as guest students. Please see the notes on how to register as a student of HSBI.

Please note: Students who are doing their doctorates in cooperation with Bielefeld University, please use your direct access to the Language Centre.

If you receive funding through ERASMUS+, you will automatically be given access to a free online OLS language course in your destination country’s local and teaching/working language.

The language test is a mandatory part of the Erasmus+ programme. Please take the test for your respective teaching language before the start of your semester abroad and send a screenshot of the result to: international.office@hsbi.de.

You can use the professional online language courses developed by speexx to train and improve your skills in English, Spanish, French, Italian or German. The courses are available for self-study in ILIAS. In the ILIAS repository, you will also find other courses that you can take for free. The language courses can be found under Repository > self-study courses > Language Trainings or directly via this ILIAS link.

With our self-study course “Intercultural Competence” provided in ILIAS, you can prepare for living and learning abroad.

HSBI offers an orientation phase of approximately three weeks before the official start of the semester. These weeks include a free intensive German course and a cultural leisure programme.

Bielefeld School of Business offers study-related German courses at different levels. If the course is not fully booked by the faculty’s own students, it will be opened for students from other faculties.

As part of the DAAD project “NRWege ins Studium,” which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, HSBI offers preparatory German courses at levels B1, B2 and C1.

The application deadlines are 15 January for the summer semester and 15 July for the winter semester, respectively.
