Hochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts

Universities have the task of imparting knowledge and generating new insights. This brings about the responsibility to transfer the knowledge and skills of university members to society and thus contribute to finding solutions for social challenges. HSBI transfer focuses on the exchange of ideas, knowledge and technologies with different parts of society in the region and beyond.
Thus, Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) pursues a broad understanding of transfer in the sense of the ‘Third Mission’. Our broad understanding of what transfer means also reflects in HSBI’s various transfer activities.
Foundation

Our Centre for Entrepreneurship – CFE is a university-wide contact point for everyone at HSBI who is interested in starting up a business. It actively provides support in all phases of business start-ups. It promotes the active transfer of knowledge and thus professional autonomy as a core career option for students and research assistants. In so doing, innovative ideas, research findings and inventions find their way into practical application more quickly and frequently.
Innovative Hochschule (being an innovative university)

Since 2023, HSBI has been entitled to call itself “Innovative Hochschule”: promoting the transfer project InCamS@BI – Innovation Campus for Sustainable Solutions , HSBI positions itself in the region of East Westphalia-Lippe as an innovative transfer player in the field of the circular economy. The focus is on: sustainable materials research. The transfer project InCamS@BI generates ideas and develops solutions to optimise plastics and their management for a circular economy. With innovative formats, the interdisciplinary InCamS@BI team shapes the interaction of science, business and society. This makes it possible to systematically build and test research-based transfer structures, so that a transfer blueprint can be developed at HSBI.
Knowledge and networks
Our key transfer activities also include the Bielefeld Research + Innovation Campus with the ThinkTank OWL and the living labs CareTech Hubs.
To establish an open knowledge culture at the university, we have a lot of activities in the realm of Open Science. HSBI is also active in numerous networks .
