Teaching Assignments at HSBI

The teaching staff at HSBI is highly diverse. In addition to professors, many practitioners share their knowledge with students in lectures, seminars and exercises. Can you picture yourself teaching at our university? We look forward to hearing from you! On this page, you will find everything you need to know about teaching assignments at HSBI and how to get in touch with us.

What responsibilities do I have if I assume a teaching assignment?

Lecturers at universities of applied sciences assume teaching responsibilities for a certain period of time. They can teach up to 8 weekly hours per semester. In contrast to permanent professors or academic staff, lecturers usually work at the university as freelancers. Many of our lecturers are practitioners who work outside the university, too.

Depending on the faculty and study programme, lecturers’ responsibilities may vary. Generally speaking, they plan and design the concept of courses such as lectures, exercises or seminars. In doing so, they contribute their knowledge from practice, depending on their personal background, and thus enhance the university’s learning offers.

Which qualifications should I bring?

Our lecturers usually have a university degree (e.g., bachelor’s, master’s or Diplom degree), some also a doctorate. However, that is not a requirement – we always look at individual qualifications. The important thing is that you can prove that you bring the expertise required for your teaching area at the university. Ideally, you also bring teaching experience.

What are my specific tasks as part of the teaching assignment?

Lecturers at our university coordinate with the respective faculty’s professors what they will teach in their courses. Most of them have a teaching load of 2 to 8 weekly hours per semester. Many hold their courses on a weekly basis, but compact courses are possible, too. While most lectures and seminars are classroom-based, lecturers can also offer hybrid learning formats by agreement.

For practitioners with several years of experience, a teaching assignment at a university is a good opportunity to link theory and practice. While some repeatedly take on individual teaching assignments at HSBI over the years, others decide to become professors at a university of applied sciences. Whichever goal you pursue: we look forward to getting to know you!
