What do lecturers for special assignments actually do?

Lecturers for special assignments (Lehrkräfte für besondere Aufgaben – LfbA) are an important pillar for teaching at our university. They usually teach in areas that are not covered by professors. For example, they offer lectures, seminars and exercises, accompany students in projects and excursions and hold exams. In general, LfbAs’ specific responsibilities depend on the needs of the faculty in which they work. Most of them have fixed-term or permanent positions at the university as academic staff. Some also have civil servant status.
