Erasmus+ provides funding for semesters and internships abroad in Europe and some other countries.
Semester Abroad: Applying is possible twice a year. Please consult our application for exchange places website for further information.
Internships abroad: Applying is possible throughout the year, but by 4 weeks before the start of the internship at the latest.
All regular HSBI students can apply from the 2nd semester onwards (for internships from the 1st semester onwards) regardless of their nationality.
Semester abroad
Study-related stays abroad at universities that are not partners of HSBI are not eligible for funding.
Internships abroad
Requirements for the internship:
Internships at national diplomatic missions or European institutions/organisations that manage EU programmes cannot be funded.
Within a study cycle (e.g. bachelor’s or master’s), a maximum of 12 months of Erasmus+ funding is possible. These 12 months include all stays abroad funded by Erasmus+ (semester abroad, internships abroad, BIPs, short stays for doctoral candidates).
The minimum length of stay is 2 months.
Simultaneous funding through the Green Mobility Grant and/or Auslands-BAföG is possible.

Internships abroad
Applying is possible throughout the year, but by 4 weeks before the start of the internship at the latest; for postgraduate internships 4 weeks before deregistration at the latest.

Note on insurance: For the duration of your internship, you must take out global health, accident and liability insurance. A combined insurance for the three can be taken out via DAAD, for example: interns’ tariff (Tarif 720).
You do not need to submit proof of insurance.

Scholarships under Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts exchange and cooperation programmes are awarded subject to the availability of funding and budgetary resources, and in accordance with the funding guidelines of the respective programme.
Fulfilment of the formal application requirements does not constitute an entitlement to admission to the selection process or to the award of a scholarship. Decisions on the award of scholarships are made at the institution’s discretion, taking into account, in particular, the number of available places and funding, as well as the quality of the applications submitted.
There is no legal entitlement to the award of a scholarship. Neither the application itself nor the fulfilment of any or all of the criteria listed constitutes a promise, assurance or guarantee of a scholarship.
We ask for your understanding that, despite careful consideration, we are unable to accept all applications. Information provided by individual staff members regarding application requirements or prospects of success does not constitute a binding commitment on the part of the university.
After completing the semester abroad, you must submit the completion documents within 30 days.
