The First Japanese Exchange Student at HSBI Combines Business and Football in a Special Way

It is the first cooperation between Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI) and a Japanese university: with Niigata University, HSBI’s Bielefeld School of Business has gained a new cooperation partner for scientific and student exchange. The student exchange has already started: Takaaki Hagiwara will be the first Japanese exchange student to study at HSBI for one year. His focus: sports economics. His passion: football.

New Horizons Fellowship: PhD Student from India Researches at HSBI on Self-Help Groups for Women in Socio-Economic Crises

Since April, Phd student Vrinda Dave has been researching at HSBI’s Bielefeld School of Business on self-help groups for women in socio-economic crises. She makes comparison between self-help groups in India and Germany. One of her first results: Empowering women is a priority in both countries to strengthen society and the economy. Dave’s stay was made possible by the New Horizon Fellowship for researchers from the Global South who conduct research on gender and equality issues. She is the fourth scholarship holder in this programme and thus a guest at HSBI.

HSBI Student from Cameroon Uses YouTube to Inform About Her English-Taught Industrial Engineering Studies on Gütersloh Campus

Treasure Njimbong Jing from Cameroon is one of the first students to study the English-taught Industrial Engineering programme on HSBI’s Gütersloh Campus. She uses her own YouTube channel to inform about her life as a student in East Westphalia-Lippe – for example, to encourage prospective students worldwide to consider studying at HSBI. HSBI Researcher Develops AI for More Efficient Cell Segmentation

Images of segmented cells are of enormous importance for biomedical research and diagnostics. And extremely expensive. Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now capable of cell segmentation, it needs to be trained with large quantities of data, which experts must label manually. Within the context of the SAIL research project, doctoral candidate Eiram Mahera Sheikh conducts research at HSBI to find out how this process can be sped up efficiently. She thus uses AI – more precisely, Deep Active Learning – as early as in the preparation of training data.

First connect|train|transform OWL at HSBI: Designing New Ways to Integrate International Specialists into the Labour Market

More than 750 visitors from the OWL region were able to inform themselves on immigration and residence legislation, the recognition of degrees, educational opportunities, qualifications and more at over 50 booths. The information fair’s aim is to reduce barriers and to sustainably integrate people with a migration history into the German labour market.
