Standards of Our Counselling

We focus on the person seeking advice.

Good academic counselling happens voluntarily. We support you in finding individual solutions and encourage you in your skills and in the projects you chose for yourself. Counselling always aims to strengthen the students’ self-competence.

Independence

Our advice at the Student Advising and Counselling (ZSB) is always confidential, unbiased as to the result and voluntary. Our advice is independent – your interests, goals, perspectives and questions are key in the counselling process.

Confidentiality

All colleagues at ZSB are bound by confidentiality. No information will be disclosed without your consent. With one exception: If there is a risk to the life and limb of the person seeking advice or other persons, we will seek assistance at the crisis service.

Availability and accessibility

Our offers are open to all students at HSBI and all prospective students. Our offers are free of charge, of course.

Professionality and quality assurance

All counsellors in general counselling have pedagogical training, experience and aptitude. In psychosocial counselling, all counsellors have comprehensive professional training in psychological counselling. Our methodological approaches are person-centred, resource- and solution-oriented, systemic and based on individual psychology, among other things. We see counselling as analytical, reflective and supportive. We support you in developing potential solutions actively and independently. We ensure professional consulting through intervision, supervision and continuous training.

Your rights

Since professional and effective counselling requires a relationship of trust, you can always switch to another counsellor at ZSB, should you not feel comfortable with the counsellor assigned to you. In psychosocial counselling, we inform you about the general conditions of counselling, we point out alternative or supplementary services and discuss the duration of counselling with you. As someone seeking advice, you have the right to ask us about our education.
