5 MG 70 Sustainable Product Development - 6 ECTS

LEARNING OUTCOMES/COMPETENCES
Graduates:

  • They have profound knowledge in the areas of product development, product development, design and sustainable product development and are able to analyze and explain them in a differentiated manner.
  • Are able to reflect current ecological, social and economic challenges of sustainable product development.
  • Are able to apply and develop various methods and models of sustainable product development. They have in-depth knowledge of the company’s internal and external framework conditions in which sustainable product development takes place, and can competently lead both specific and interdisciplinary discussions.
  • Are able to provide scientific specificities of sustainable product development in terms of, for example, Digital and technical solutions (e.g. AI and the Internet of Things) and can propose well-founded adaptations of standard methods.
  • Can measure sustainability in product development using suitable methods and, in particular, also assess the consequences of technology development.
  • Can apply what has been learned to specific case studies from operational practice in a targeted manner and critically reflect on them.

Normative, internal and legal framework conditions for sustainable product development

  • Introduction to the relationship between sustainability and product development
  • Ecological, social and economic aspects of product development
  • Green Design, Cradle-to-Cradle, Circular Economy (9R), Design for Recycling, Upcycling, Design for upgradeability, reparability, etc.
  • Materials and material cycles of a circular economy
  • Management, methods, processes and instruments for the development of products, technologies, designs and processes (VDI 2220)
  • Introduction to Product Development and Product Development (VDI 2221)
  • Sustainable development of digital solutions and technologies, design methodology, simulation techniques / CAx, digital twin
  • Methods of measuring the sustainability of products, life cycle assessment, CO2 footprint, resource consumption, technology impact assessment
  • Current developments and case studies of sustainable product development

  • They are able to understand and describe the effects of the internationalization of companies on various fields of action of the HRM. 
  • You are able to make scientifically sound judgments within the scope of the IHRM field.
  • Within the framework of the IHRM, you can develop your own questions and work on them using suitable methods.
